Allelopathic effect of waste-land weeds on germination and growth of winter crops Planta Daninha
Hayyat,Muhammad S.; Safdar,Muhammad E.; Asif,Muhammad; Tanveer,Asif; Ali,Liaqat; Qamar,Rafi; H. Ali,Hafiz; Farooq,Naila; M.A. Javeed,Hafiz; H. Tarar,Zahid.
Abstract Background: Waste-land weeds present around the fields exert their allelopathic influence on crops through their leaf leachates and rhizospheric soils. Objective: A study was conducted to investigate the phytotoxic action of four common waste-land weeds Parthenium hysterophorus L., Achyranthes aspera L., Lantana camara L. and Withania somnifera L. through their aqueous extracts and rhizospheric soils against winter crops Avena sativa L., Cicer arietinum L., Hordeum vulgare L. and Triticum aestivum L. Methods: Experiments were conducted in Agronomy laboratory in College of Agriculture at the University of Sargodha. In first experiment, 5% (w/v) water extract from entire plant of each weed was applied to germinating seeds of crops whereas in...

Potassium Dynamics in Ruzigrass Rhizosphere Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Volf,Marcelo Raphael; Guimarães,Tiara Moraes; Scudeletti,Daniele; Cruz,Igor Vilela; Rosolem,Ciro Antonio.
ABSTRACT: Ruzigrass (Urochola ruziziensis) has a large capacity to take up K from the soil, including non-exchangeable forms, and can play an important role in nutrient cycling in integrated production systems. However, K transport to roots of brachiarias is not well known, nor the nutrient dynamics in the rhizosphere, where a concentration gradient may be established towards the non-rhizospheric soil, creating a favorable environment for the release of non-exchangeable K. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of ruzigrass on K dynamics in the rhizosphere and on non-exchangeable K release. Ruzigrass was grown in pots filled with a Latossolo Vermelho Amarelo (Typic Hapludox) that was collected at 0.00-0.20 and 0.20-0.60 m layer from a cultivated area and...

Rhizosphere pH and phosphorus forms in an Oxisol cultivated with soybean, brachiaria grass, millet and sorghum Scientia Agricola
Schoninger,Evandro Luiz; Gatiboni,Luciano Colpo; Ernani,Paulo Roberto.
Plants have shown different responses to fertilization with rock phosphate, including responses through alteration of the attributes of rhizospheric soil. The objective of this study was to evaluate soil pH alterations and alterations in the contents of forms of phosphorus in the rhizosphere of soil fertilized with rock phosphate as a result of cultivation of species of plants. An experiment was developed under greenhouse conditions to evaluate alterations in the pH and in the forms of phosphorus in the rhizosphere of an Oxisol fertilized with rock phosphate and cultivated with four species. Treatments consisted of the cultivation of four species of soybean - Glycine max (L.) Merrill, brachiaria grass - Brachiaria brizantha Hochst Stapf, millet -...
